I love it. I don't have to wait for downloads to finish so I can watch episodes of colbert and daily show anymore.
The only catch is you have to watch 3 30 second commercials placed intermittently through the program.

| PALIN: Nuclear weaponry, of course, would be the be all, end all of just too many people in too many parts of our planet, so those dangerous regimes, again, cannot be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons, period. Our nuclear weaponry here in the U.S. is used as a deterrent. And that's a safe, stable way to use nuclear weaponry. |
What?
And I was also dismayed by how often she dodged questions. And those god damn folksy terms she kept injecting into her speech. "gee whiz" or "doggone"...
And it was really easy to tell when she was reciting a well coached talking point, because what she was saying actually made sense. The one that really pissed me off was harping on the Obama/Biden ticket for "looking backwards" and "placing blame." First of all, if there are things that have happened in the past eight years under a republican administration that need to be changed, YOU HAVE TO TALK ABOUT IT. Second of all, how fucking myopic is it to only want to look forward without consideration for what got you to your present situation? (or what caused global warming for that matter)
As for Biden, I thought he did well, but was too eager to pat himself on the back for congressional accomplishments.

biden, as expected, is a way better public speaker and debater... but yeah, like rah said, palin did a lot better than expected. you could tell for the first 20 minutes or so she was really nervous though.

She held her own. She may have even slightly resuscitated her image. If you want to call a victory, I'd call it for Biden, but it was definitely not a knockout.
All the golly goshing and darn its made her sound like she wanted to sit America on her knee and tell it a story.
What it seems like I'm seeing (not necessarily from you guys) is exactly what I saw when Bush debated Gore in 2000. People expected him to fuck up, but he didn't, so they rated his performance much higher than he probably deserved.

i'm really not sure about biden's choking up -- i'm a little skeptical because i'd heard he choked up during a campaign speech the other day when he was talking about his son, and he had actually told a commentator that he was embarrassed about it and wouldn't let it happen again. but then it happened again. i suppose he could just be very emotional about his son being deployed (i would be). who knows.
palin made ME nervous at the beginning of the debate last night -- i actually found myself holding my breath for her. she relaxed about 20 minutes in though.
i can't believe she wasn't made to answer more of the questions asked though -- not that the questions were all that great. i hate to say it, because i like gwen ifill a lot normally, but her questions were softballs.
Well... it was a VP debate after all. They really didn't debate each other, just mostly each other's primary.

In the end, though, I still did not have a good grasp of the material I crammed into my brain, and now I've probably forgotten it.
